Humazah
Surah Humazah number 104. This Surah is
a general Surah that is for everyone. It is not just for the makkan leaders who
used to flamboyant their wealth and count it.
Humazah is one of the 3 surahs in the
Quran that begins with destruction; the other 2 surahs being Surah mutaffin and
Surah lahab. It opens with threats to the Humazah and Lumazah. Bu what exactly
are the Humazah and Lumazah? They are the slanderous reviler and habitual
defamer. These are the ones who when possess wealth defame and degrade others.
These are the ones who think they are better than others. Because of processing
these qualities and believing that they are higher they will go to hutama.
These types of qualities were found in
makkan times and la shak they are found today. In ancient times the leaders
would sit outside and count their wealth. Why? Because they legitly had no
life. They would count one...two... But lo and behold- when someone comes to
them, in need of a little from their excessive wealth; do show any kindness?
Bala they shoo the person away.
As for the tafseer of this surah the
first ayah starts with wail as I earlier mentioned. Wail is a one word that
means destruction or woe to them. So in this context it is translated as, “Woe
to every slanderous reviler, habitual defamer.” This ayah is basically for one
person with 2 different qualities. The form of Humazah is fu’a’lah—always
doing. It comes from 2 babs- daraba and nasara.
The second ayah is, “the one who hordes
wealth and counts it.” As I said before the Arabs used to count their wealth
and still want more. Their attitude was like ‘yehh bring the money in- bring it
in’…outright greedy.
Ayah number 3 is what they think.
“Yahsabu- ‘He thinks that his wealth will immortalize him. That possessing more
money will allow him to live longer. As if money is like the water from the
fountain of youth enabling him to live forever. One problem. There is no
fountain of youth.
Ayah number 4 is about their eternal
result. “Most surely know he will be hurled in to the capital C, Crusher.” Now
one may wonder what the crusher really means. You needn’t to worry; the
question and answers are in the next verses. At here I may add that hutama is
on the scale of fu’a’lah~ innate always doing {crushing}. The next ayah “And what will make you know
what the crusher is?”
“It is the fire of Allah set ablaze;
kindled.” This is ayah number 6. Muqada is ism mafool being a sifa of Narullah.
Wa badayin ayah number 7,”Which mounts over hearts.” This describes how the
fire of Allah. Heart is the tenderest organ in our body. Literally and
figuratively. When we burn our hand or break our elbow it only hurts in that
specific place it does not hurt any where else… sah? But as for the heart-when
it gets hurt- it hurts the whole body.
Ayah 8 also describes the fire of Allah.
“Indeed it will close in on them.” It will close in on them as coming closer to
them. Encasing them. Remember that Nari- jahanm is pitch black and they will
not be able to see around them. They will be stuck in darkness... Thus is the
punishment for them.
The last ayah- ayah number 9 is, “In
ever extending {fire} pillars” The fire will leap- mount over their hearts,
close in on them in ever extending fire pillars. Whose punishment is this? To
every backbiter and slanderer.
As Muslims we should refrain from
useless talk such as backbiting, slandering, and gossiping (no duh). May Allah
forgive our sins and have mercy onus and guide us to stay on the right path.
Siratal lazeena an amta alaihim ghairal maghdoobi allaihim wallad daleen.
Ameen :D
